Why we are proud that our soap is 100% Handmade
SoapSnobs make each and every bar from scratch, for the simple reason that it is 'hands-down' the most superior quality soap (and we are SoapSnobs). Although melt and pour glycerine soaps are popular, many people find them to be extremely drying to the skin. The reason being that melt and pour base routinely contains alcohol, propolyne glycol or similar substances, all of which are extremely drying.
Melt and Pour soaps are made from a base that is actually factory produced, purchased by the block, melted down and poured into molds, and sold as "handmade soap". Our handmade soap in the truest sense of the word, is handmade, from scratch!
Each and every bar SoapSnobs produce is 100% Handmade the old fashioned, non commercialised way, using a method called “cold process” this results in a highly moisturising glycerine based bar. Glycerine is often removed from commercial soap and sold as a separate product to extend profit margins. By not removing glycerine, we ensure that quality is not compromised, and your skin is moisturised every time you use one of our sumptuous bars.
The cold method process method of making soap is the combing of fats or oils with water and caustic soda (lye). SoapSnobs use Olive Oil, Palm Oil and Coconut Oil. These are less greasy than the animal fats (tallow) used in most commercial soaps produced, and they are of a much higher quality.
The alkali (Lye) create’s a chemical reaction called saponification which results in the creation of glycerine and fatty acid salts that we know as soap! Over a six week curing period, the saponification process removes any trace of lye from the product leaving a natural and soft soap to be used in perfect harmony with your skin.
